#mydonnawilson - Zeena Shah

If you’ve visited the Donna Wilson website recently, chances are you’ll recognise our latest #mydonnawilson interviewee. As well as doing a magnificent job of modelling our spring fashion collection, Zeena Shah is a fully-fledged, multi-hyphenated wonder woman! And when we found out where she lives, we just had to share her home with you…

So first things first – tell us a little bit about yourself and your home…

Hello, my name is Zeena Shah and I am an Art Director / Stylist / Author / Blogger / Maker / Illustrator and Print Designer…I enjoy doing lots of things! I live in East London with my boyfriend and we are lucky enough to live in the glorious listed Strand Building.

The Strand Building is an Art Deco haven hidden away in Hackney. It was formerly the Hackney Electricity Demonstration Halls & Offices which were then converted into flats. The hallways and staircases are pink and we’re lucky enough to have some of the original pink blue and yellow tiles in our kitchen and bathroom.

How would you describe your interior style?

I’d say it’s quite an eclectic mix of styles. I love mid-century teak furniture but also love collecting vintage pieces and am always drawn to beautiful bric-a-brac. It’s definitely very fun and colourful. I’m one of those people that fills every inch of space and would be a terrible minimalist.

Do you have a favourite room?

On a sunny day, our living room catches the light beautifully and is such a calm and cosy space to be in, come winter or summer time.

What’s the most treasured object in your home?

Now that’s a tricky one! I’d have to say it’s the vintage pieces and sentimental pieces I’ve collected over the years. One of my current favourites is a giant letter Z that hangs up on our wall. It’s both my boyfriends and I initial we were so excited when we found it in a junk shop in Margate, as the Zs are rather rare.

Where do you shop for interior design objects?

I love visiting flea markets, antique markets and charity shops. I recently went to a fabulous flea market in Amsterdam and have total regrets about not picking up a few home bits as my case was too small. I love the Sunbury Antiques Market at Kempton Park which I’ve been going to for years. You also can’t go wrong with a small town charity shop – there’s always a gem to be found in there.

Who or what is your biggest interior crush?

I am really rather in love with 2LG Studio over on Instagram. Their interior design is absolutely dreamy – think pink, velvet and turquoise. Talk about interiors envy, I would love to live in their home!

What’s on your interiors shopping list?

Anything from Silken Favours. I have a few of her cushions and clothing pieces and have my eyes on a giant cactus cushion. I’d love a giant rattan chair but sadly our flat is a bit too small… one day.

Oh and a giant vintage birdcage. My boyfriend Zack is a paper artist and would fill it with paper birds. I think it would be fabulous hanging in the hallway.

And lastly, what makes a house a home?

The people in it and the memories they share together.
