Donna Wilson + SCP at Milan Furniture Fair 2016

8 April 2016

It’s the 55th year of the Milan Furniture Fair/ Salone Internazionale del Mobile and my friends SCP will launch this latest range of Frank, Ernest and Henry Pouffes at the show next week!

This new knitted Stitch pattern is reminiscent of traditional Swedish folk designs, in a natural muted colour palette of grey, blue and rust.

The wool is specially spun and dyed in England and then woven in Wales using a time-honoured double cloth weaving technique. Soft, shapely and robust enough to roll down hills, the pouffe collection is also available in Nos Da, Bora Da, Zig Zag and Braid Caspian fabric.

SCP’s main exhibition will be to launch their new Sofa in Sight upholstery collection, which presents six sofas by six designers: Michael Anastassiades, Konstantin Grcic, Faudet-Harrison, Matthew Hilton, Lucy Kurrein and Terence Woodgate. You can read more about it here.

If you are in Milan next week, stop by the SCP stand to have a look!

Donna Wilson at the Milan Furniture Fair 2014

4 April 2014
Hello everyone,
I’d like to share with you two collaborations I worked on this year for the Milan Furniture Fair, which starts next week! It is a very exciting time for all in the design industry and I’m very proud to have been able to work again with two UK based manufacturers that I admire very much for their beautiful work as well as for commitment to UK production: SCP and Ercol.
First, the pieces I worked on with SCP are the Martha Bench and Arthur Occasional Table:
Martha and Arthur are good companions. Both with 4 turned legs, the stool is upholstered in our welsh blanket fabric (from the Field Daycollection) which gives the two a cosy homespun feel. The design is loosely based on a traditional milking stool, and uses the traditional peg method of construction.
Martha and Arthur will be available for viewing at the below location – don’t forget to stop by at 4 for an afternoon tipple!
With Ercol I have made a very special version of their Original Studio Couch
The Ercol Studio Couch has been covered in a bespoke knitted fabric which was inspired by a Finnish wall hanging I found. To make the couch even more special its arms have been wrapped with thousands of strands of wool creating an eye catching gradient effect and tactile feel.
It’s so nice to do these one-off pieces for a UK based company that still sells so many of them, and of course an honour to work with a company that has such a long heritage in UK furniture design – Ercol was founded in 1920!
The Donna Wilson + Ercol Studio Couch will be available for viewing here:

New Range of Wooden Furniture for SCP

5 April 2012

I’m excited to show you my new range of furniture which will be launching at Milan Furniture Fair 2012.

This is the Bertha Sideboard, it’s a petite piece and was inspired by a trip to Fogo Island, New Foundland.

There is a strong tradition of boat building, and  lot of the houses there are clad with tongue and groove, with furniture made using basic boat building techniques–you may have seen some of my earlier posts about this amazing place.

Through the key hole detail

Trying to get the key hole shape right! (it’s now made by CNC)

The collection started with the Bertha armchair-  which is part of an exciting collaboration with SCP and the Shorefast Foundation on Fogo Island.

The frame is made from FSC approved Douglas Fir and is designed to provide both rigidity and strength. The sides of the frame are flat whilst the four back panels gently kick outwards like a boat’s hull. The feet are part of the frame design, this gives the piece the sense of a beautifully crafted continuous line. The loose drop seat has elasticated webbing with neatly fitting feather and down seat and back cushions upholstered in Bora Da Willow fabric. Made in the UK.

We have just developed a two seater version too- seen below upholstered in Bora-da, which is a fabric I designed and made in Wales.

And last but not least,a new range of pouffes covered in a greeny/grey knitted lambswool fabric we call Braid.

If you are coming to Milan Furniture Fair I hope to see you there- I will post more details about SCP’s event soon.
