Step into the vibrant world of paper artist, set designer and prop stylist Chloe Fleury! She shares her happy LA home with her husband and three children and it is truly one of the most colourful spaces we've come across in a while. And that pool..
We had a lovely chat with Chloe about her creative journey, her love for all things colourful and why she chose this special place for her family.
Hi Chloe! We are so happy to feature you and your amazingly colourful style. Please tell us a little about yourself and what you do.
Thank you, happy to be here! I love Donna Wilson’s designs! I am a prop stylist and paper artist living in sunny California with my husband and three kids. I work for many brands from the beauty world to kids fashion… I really love what I do! Every day is different!
Tell us about your work as. How did you end up doing what you do and what do you like most about your art form?
I’ve been making things with my hands and creating little decors for as long as I can remember! As a child I was already obsessed with miniatures and origamis. I went to art school in France and studied visual arts. There I discovered stop motion animation during a workshop and I completely fell in love with it, I thought it was so magical! What I love most about my job is that every project is different and I get to work with different people and collaborate with lots of brands.
We absolutely LOVE your home and how colourful it is. How did you know that this was the home for you and your family? Did you do a lot of work to your house? How did you approach the interior?
We started looking at houses to buy during covid. After a year and a half with our daughters being homeschooled we felt a little cramped in our rental. We visited this house and as soon as the doors opened we fell in love with it: the big open space, the high ceilings and the accordion windows to the backyard. It felt like going on vacation. And I still have that same feeling after 3 years when I come down the stairs every morning and I see the colours and our backyard with the pool. I feel very lucky. The house had been renovated and some things are not my taste like the bathrooms but we only did small work in the backyard for now and painting inside the house. It was a blank canvas.
What are your favourite colours and why? Any colours that just don’t work for you? Are there particular colours/shapes/materials/prints/textures that you are always drawn to?
I love every colour, I think it really just depends on how you put them together. There’s not one colour that I hate. I love light blue lately a lot, also coral and lavender, butter yellow…stripes stripes stripes always! I love patchwork and embroideries a lot, ceramics and wooden sculptures.

Tell us about your favourite room/piece of furniture/object.
I adore this palm tree/sun ceramic I found at an antique store here in LA. And I guess every vintage piece of furniture. I love my little reading corner with the bird chair from Knoll, I adore books! Children books, design books, novels! I read a lot and I just love being surrounded by books. There is something very peaceful and also magical about it.
And what about that blue staircase!
Inspired by my love for Greece, Morocco and Mexico. The blue that we find in these colourful countries is very close to my heart. From Frida Kahlo’s house to Jardin Majorelle or Greece’s house shutters.
Describe your work space and why you have chosen to work in this particular spot?
I have been working from my home for the past 8 years. We’ve been in this house for 3 years and I used to have a room dedicated to my desk and props but we had our baby boy and I had to move my desk to our guest room which soon after became my oldest daughter’s bedroom. She did not want to share a bedroom with her sister anymore and as she started middle school I felt like it was good for her to have her own space. So now I have a small corner in our bedroom which is not ideal but it works for now. What I love about this space is the light! Our bedroom has a wide accordion window and it is upstairs so it’s the space that has the most light throughout the day. Depending on the projects I move around, I sometimes work in our living room if I have to build something bigger, or the dining room, sometimes outside if I’m painting!
You have three children. How do they use the space? Have they influenced the way you have designed and furnished your home? Are they as creative as you?
Since the house is a big open space it really is a playground for them to run around, do cart wheels, dance and build obstacles courses/blocks they can climb on… the girls are very creative, they both have a passion for dance and making up choreographies and spend a lot of time drawing and crafting. Because I did a lot of crafts with them during covid they now have a lot of practice and know the tools and where things are, they just do their own things. Like doll houses, paper clothes…
Your garden is super dreamy. And that pool! Tell us a little bit about the design of the garden area and how you use it.
The pool and the beautiful trees were there when we bought the house, we only had the bench for more seating space and the planter made, I knew I wanted tiles!
Are there any particular places you have visited that have inspired you? Are there any travel purchases for your home that you can tell us about?
We visited Japan last Spring and it is such an inspiring place, from the gorgeous and peaceful nature with temples and deers to the food and all the cute packagings and little characters on every signs and doors you see, I spent some time at bookstores too and brought a few super fun and cute children books. I also like to bring things back from France every summer such as pretty plates to decorate my walls.
What do you love most about living in California?
The sun, the palm trees and the proximity to the ocean. It really is a nice and easy place to live with the kids.
Name 5 things you can’t live without at the moment and why.
The novel I am currently reading, my son’s elephant stuffy and toy truck, sunglasses and my phone to take photos (of my kids and things that inspire me).
What are your plans for 2025?
It is my dream to illustrate a children's book, let’s make this happen! I have been slowly working on a personal project when I don’t have client projects to work on and I really hope I can find a publisher for it!
Thank you so much, Chloe!
